  • Solar Forum 5/21/2013 6:00 PM - 5/21/2013 8:00 PM

Individuals, small businesses can benefit from solar!

Two leading sustainability organizations in our area will host a free solar energy forum in Fredericksburg Tuesday, May 21.

Public Citizen, a regular exhibitor at Fredericksburg’s annual Renewable Roundup and Green Living Fair, and Fredericksburg SHINES, a local organization dedicated to sustainable living, have joined forces to present the event at Hill Country University Center, 21818 U.S. Hwy. 290, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Cost seems to be people’s main concern, and many are surprised to learn that solar is now competitive with traditional energy sources, depending on the time of day. And as more solar panelsgo up, costs come down. Another major benefit: when your private solar panels produce more energy than you use, the electric company buysyour excess energy production!

Speakers at the Fredericksburg Solar Forum will include:

Stan Pipkin—an owner and principal designer at Lighthouse Solar in Austin and a principal at Pipkin, an Austin architectural firm.

Stanley Florek—an expert in software, energy, real estate and project finance. He will address issues involved in bringing solar to the masses such as community solar projects and group buying.

Teresa Lopez—founder and CEO of Green Energy Money and Director of Green Development at Security National Mortgage Services. She will speak briefly on how to avoid up-front costs of solar with special financing. She holds two U.S. Patents for green financial instruments.

Jose Beceiro—director of clean energy at the Austin Chamber of Commerce. He will discuss the local economic benefits of solar development.

Other attendees will include City of Fredericksburg staff members, so come and bring your questions!

Reservations are not required but are encouraged. To RSPV, receive an email invitation or get more information, contact John Watson, executive director of Fredericksburg SHINES:jwatsongreenliving@gmail.comor 830-997-3543, ext. 27.
